Educational Philosophy
Body and Mind / Academics / Sports / Arts / Toin Memorial Hall

The Toin Education is based on a strong educational philosophy lacking in many other schools. There are three fundamental principles to Toin's philosophy: "If you do it, you can do it." "When you are able, then advance." "Once you advance, get stronger." These principles apply not only to academics, but also to sports, the arts and all other activities students are truly interested in pursuing.
When children are truly interested in something, they pursue it with their whole heart. Thus, they start to enjoy doing these things without feeling any hardship. It is crucial what they choose to do and how to enjoy doing it. Schools should offer students opportunities to develop interest and learn how to enjoy. Enjoying does not mean comfort. It takes an effort to learn. Though, having a goal and making an effort can be enjoying without hardship

Education of Body and Mind

In the past, samurai warriors were respected for being both strong martial artists as well as good scholars. This way of life was called the Bunbu-Ryodo (bun = letters, bu = martial arts, ryodo = both ways)

Today, students at Toin Gakuen live the modern Bunbu-Ryodo, which stresses the importance of a universal education, including academics, sports, and arts. Remarkable achievements in all of these fields have made us one of the top educational institutions in the country.

Academics

For many years Toin Gakuen's high school graduates have passed entrance exams to the most prestigious universities in the country. We are one of the top schools who has managed to send a considerable number of students to these elite universities. In addition, the still young Department of Biomedical Engineering of Toin University has one of the highest patent registration rates in Japan. Unlike graduates from more than half of all other law schools in Japan, graduates from Toin University's Faculty of Law are able to pass the national bar examination, which only 3% of all examinees pass yearly.

Championships and appearances in sport events on the national and international level have made the name of Toin familiar to the general public. Toin teams have won national championships in baseball and judo, and were finalists in soccer, kendo, and rugby. The students are taught and trained by experienced instructors who have themselves been active athletes nationally and internationally.

Toin Gakuen supports many kinds of artistic activities. Besides modern arts and music, traditional Japanese arts such as the tea ceremony (sado) and flower arrangement (ikebana) are also taught as part of the curriculum. In the magnificent Toin Memorial Hall students are able to experience world class art performances up close.

Toin Memorial Hall

Built in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the school, the Memorial Hall has become the symbol of Toin Gakuen. The Hall seats 1769 people and is situated at the center of the campus. Academic and cultural events such as start-of-school and graduation ceremonies, orchestra and theater performances, movies and academic symposia are all held at the Memorial Hall. Students are able to see the world's leading scholars, artists and musicians in action without having to leave school or pay for expensive tickets. The Hall also provides a space for students to showcase their own cultural and artistic abilities, which they do each year at the school festival.
